A thrifting trend

The word ¨thrift” comes from the word ẗhrive”.  Being thrifty means to use money and other resources responsibly and not wastefully. The Salvation army is a christian thrift store that was the first thrift store that became national, and ever since dozens of thrift stores are national such as, savers, goodwill, saint vincent de paul, etc. And ever since thrift stores have been immensely popular within america as a cheaper alternative to buying new clothes. But recently within the youth of america shopping at thrift stores, or “thrifting,” has become immensely popular and created several internet trends. For example: videos of Teenagers who post videos on youtube regularly or “Youtubers” as todayś youth call them, literally just video tape themselves driving to the thrift store, show themselves finding the clothes, and then go home and show the viewers what they bought, and a lot of the videos receive over 1 million views. Teenagers have very complicated dressing styles, some teenagers wear all nike and adidas, some wear thrasher hoodies and skinny jeans, and some kids have their very own style. Some of the most common people who donate to thrift stores are elderly people. And kids have some aesthetics of clothing that are also what are commonly worn by elderly people. Making thrift stores more  popular. So if you have clothes you never wear anymore, donate them. Your trash maybe someone else's treasure.

Upcoming Lunar Eclipses

In case you were not aware, on January 31, an event that took place that is called a blood moon, or a lunar eclipse. This is a phenomenon that occurs when the earth blocks the light of the sun from the moon. This will cause the moon to have an orange or red appearance. But if you missed this most recent one, there’s no need to worry because there are plenty more to come.

The Importance of Poetry

Poetry is an unsurpassable embodiment of both expression and enlightenment. It supplies people with the opportunity to convey their unexplainable thoughts through the simplistic stroke of a pen onto paper, and gives many a way to tell their story in a situation where they may never receive the chance. The lyrical tale is by far more than art, but a language in itself connecting to each individual soul in a variety of ways. Many use it as an escape, but I say it’s an entrance into a different universe all together; where society’s limitations are defiable and anything is attainable. The craft is used everywhere, everyday whether people realize it or not. It’s found in the kind-hearted act of helping someone with their groceries and in the cruel, vicious storms the East experiences day after day. Poetry is not merely rhyming word after word but the act of creating a spiel with every letter written.

Because of how important poetry is to our everyday lives, the KHS newspaper is putting on a poetry contest for all Kuna High School students. This competition will give students the chance to get their talent recognized and express the way they feel without judgement. Students can submit up to two original poems of any style, length, topic, and it could have been written at any time.

Submissions will no longer be accepted after March 21st, 2018, so be sure to hurry!

SlyceBox Kuna

A new restaurant came to Kuna this year, can you guess which one? SlyceBox! Yes, another pizza place, and it’s going to be the fifth one here in Kuna. It might sound not that amazing since we have multiple pizza locations, but SlyceBox is different. You can find it at 1353 N Meridian Rd, in the middle of Kuna Nails and Spa and Ace hardware store. The pizza may be really big for you to handle since they are about 6 inches in width, and 8 inches in length, but it’s delicious! Many of the staff make sure to keep each other going through the day with positivity, and they do the same thing for customers.

Normally, many pizza restaurants don’t have drive-thrus, but this one does, which means students at Kuna can make a lunch stop! It’s out of the ordinary, but a way to try new things. A good thing about Slyce is that you can buy a pizza by the slice instead of the whole pie, which makes it a good thing to go through the drive-thru if you’re in a hurry. They also have slices of the day which are different everyday of the week, so that you have a good amount of variety like the Potato Bacon, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Thai Chicken slices. You might’ve known that they changed their name from SlyceBox to Pie Hole and first located in Meridian, but their love for people (and pizza) will never change.

Their history, pizza, and building can change, but their passion for the business doesn’t. Their vision is to create great customer experiences, they believe that their quality products should be priced fairly and in awesome environments that enhance that experience. SlyceBox wants to be more than just a regular pizza place, they want to be a home for pizza lovers! You can either call, pop in, or come through the drive-thru to grab a slice or pick up your whole pizza. Although customers make up the entire business, SlyceBox won’t treat you as strangers, because you’ll be part of the Slyce family!
